Christ’s Preeminence In All Things At All Times

Text: Colossians 1:18   IBCSWS   December 6, 2020

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

Christmas Season is a well-awaited season and people are so happy, excited and expectant of good things the holiday would bring. But lest we forget, Christ’s preeminence should not be overlooked because He is the reason behind the season.

Most importantly, the preeminence of Christ is not seasonal but at all times and for eternity. In Philippians 2:10-11, it is written, 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (KJV)

Colossians 1:18 reminds us about the Lord as the Head of the Church and that in all things He may have the due supremacy. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. (KJV)

As we go through the Christmas Season, we must put Christ first in our lives and do things that will give glory to God. Remember the wonderful manifestation of Christ in the flesh and what He did for us at the Cross.   Romans 5:8

The Bible says in I Timothy 3:16, And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. (KJV) What a wonderful Savior we have in Jesus. We must keep on telling the lost and dying world that Jesus Saves.

(I) Christ’s Preeminence Should Not Be Overlooked

Colossians 1:18

Anywhere at any time, whatever we do, we must not forget to put the Lord Jesus first in our thoughts, words and activities. In Colossians 3:17, it is written, And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. (KJV)

-We must highly acknowledge the Lord’s preeminence

 Colossians 1:18

Acknowledging the Lord’s preeminence is recognizing His worthiness to be praised over all things. God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, and for such reason, it is only proper for us to lift up the wonderful Name of Jesus in our midst.

The Bible says in Philippians 2:10-11, That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (KJV) As we ponder these passages in our hearts, it will surely give us a deeper understanding concerning the Deity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  • Without Him we are nothing Colossians 1:17

Keeping in mind that the Lord is the Creator, Sustainer and Center of praise is delightful to God. In Colossians 1:17, it is written, And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (KJV) Without the Lord Jesus Christ, it is impossible for us to exist.

Without the presence and working of the Lord in our lives, spiritual fruitfulness is impossible to achieve.  In John 15:5, the Lord Jesus said, I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. (KJV) Be reliant on the Lord and let His power be displayed in our God-entrusted ministries.

Spiritual insights to live by:

Whatever plans and scheduled activities we’ll be having this Christmas Season, we must do them in the Name of the Lord as an acknowledgement of His preeminence.

In every work we do, it is always right to put our heart in it and do it for God’s honor and glory. In Colossians 3:23, it is written, And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; (KJV)
