Behind God’s Mercy

Text: Psalm 103:11    IBCGH    November 1, 2020

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

God is so merciful and gracious to God-fearing people. The Bible says in Psalm 103:17, But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; (KJV)

God’s mercy is incomparable and indisputable. His compassion is beyond human comprehension. In Lamentations 3:22, it is written, It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. (KJV) What a compassionate God we have despite of our shortcomings.

The downfall of human race has a tragic effect on our lives, but we praise God because according to His mercy He saved us as written in Titus 3:5, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; (KJV)

God is the Righteous Judge and He is so considerate to us because He knows how frail we are. David said in Psalm 39:4, LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am. (KJV)

(I) God Knows Our Frame Psalm 103:14

The Bible says in Psalm 103:14, For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust. (KJV) God formed the first man out of the clay, and for such truth, He knows our substance very well.

The Apostle Paul said in II Corinthians 4:7, But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. (KJV) To God be the glory in all things.

-He knows the shortness of man’s life on earth

  Psalm 103:15, 16

In Psalm 103:15-16, it is written, As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. 16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. (KJV) This passage makes us realize the shortness of man’s life. For this reason, we must not live in vanity, but spend our lives for God’s honor and glory.

  • God mercies are upon those who fear Him

        Psalm 103:11, 17

God-fearing people will never be forgotten by the Lord, and surely, they will enjoy His mercy forever more. The Bible says in Psalm 103:11, For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. (KJV) This passage denotes how incomparable are the ways of God toward us.

Spiritual insights to live by:

As we ponder in our hearts and enjoy the mercy of God, may we not be found abusive of His loving-grace, but the more we should show our reverential fear unto Him and continue to be faithful in serving the Lord Jesus till He comes.

The Bible says in Psalm 116:12-14, What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me? 13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. 14 I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.

Truly, we are so precious in the sight of God that He gave His Son to die at the Cross for our sins. In life even in death, we are assured of His abiding presence because we are precious to Him. The psalmist said in Psalm 116:15, Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. (KJV) No doubt, God’s mercy, grace and love upon us are inseparable and incomparable.
