Call Upon The LORD In Truth

Text: Psalm 145:18-21    IBCSWS   November 15, 2020

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

The blessing of calling upon the LORD is beyond human comprehension but such grace from God is yet to be realized by many people. The Bible says in Jeremiah 33:3, Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. (KJV)

The Bible says in Psalm 50:15, And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. (KJV) This comforting passage reminds us that in time of trouble, we must call upon the Lord and we will be assured of His help. It is also an opportune time on our part to glorify God.

(I) Fear God Psalm 145:18, 19 Psalm 147:11

Fear of God has a vital role in gaining God’s mercy and grace. In Psalm 147:11, it is written, The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. (KJV) Reverential fear of God is an excellent distinction of people who are reliant on the Lord.

-Let your desire be fulfilled v19

God-fearing people are delightful to God and their hearts’ desire will be granted in a God-glorifying way. In Psalm 145:19, it is written, He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. (KJV)

  • Pray to God and He will hear and save you v19

Our God is not only prayer-answering God but He is also a God of deliverance. Keep on praying to God and experience His miraculous working.

The Bible says in Romans 10:13, For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (KJV) What a hope-giving passage to those who would like to be saved through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9, 10

(II) Love God Psalm 145:20

The Bible says in Psalm 116:1, I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. (KJV) There are many reasons for loving God and this passage shows that answered prayers could also intensify our love for the Lord.

We love God because He first loved us, as written in I John 4:19, We love him, because he first loved us. (KJV) We must love God in sincerity and in truth and not with just flowery and passing words that easily fade. (See Deuteronomy 6:5 also.)

-Enjoy God’s preserving power v15 v20

The Bible says in Psalm 145:20, The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy. (KJV) Love God and be preserved. Truly, God is the Sustainer of our lives.

  • Extol God and let others bless His holy Name v1, v3 v21 Psalm 148:1-5

The Bible says in Psalm 145:21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever. (KJV) It should be our desire and commitment to praise God as long as we live. Take note of what the psalmist wrote in Psalm 145:2, Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. (KJV)

In Psalm 148:1-5, it is written, 1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights. 2 Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. 3 Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. 4 Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. 5 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created. (KJV)

Spiritual insights to live by:

Call upon the LORD in truth, draw closer to Him and be blest as the psalmist said in Psalm 145:18, The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. (KJV) Whatever situation we have in life today, keep on relying on the Lord because He really cares for us. I Peter 5:7
