Totally Unprepared World For The Birth Of Christ

Text: Luke 2:1-7   IBCGH    December 20, 2020

Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar

Reading Luke 2:1-3 will give us a glimpse of how busy the people were in complying and doing their responsibilities concerning the decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. For such reason, the world was totally caught unaware when the Savior came into the world.

The Bible says, And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. (KJV)

Seemingly, there was an unavoidable movement of people travelling from different places to meet the demand of time. It was sad that the birth of Jesus was overlooked to the extent that no one prepared a place for them to stay. Take note of Luke 2:7 which says, And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. (KJV)

This Christmas Season may be different from the past celebrations in terms of merriments because of the pandemic, but this memorable period of time must be dedicatedly used for the glory of God as we ponder in our hearts about the birth of the Messiah and God’s great salvation so great and free.

(I) The Unnoticed Birth Of The Most Awaited Savior

     Luke 2:1-7

Christ was the most awaited Savior but when He came, the world was so busy and not focused on the things of God. As a shameful result, no special room was prepared for the babe Jesus.

In John 1:10, it is written, He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. (KJV) What a disgrace for those who looked forward for the Messiah’s birth and yet when He came, they did not recognize Him.

The Bible says in John 1:11, He came unto his own, and his own received him not. (KJV) This passage is still the sad spiritual image of His own today.

-The busy people Luke 2:1-7

The world is always loaded with countless works to be done, and for this reason, people are always terribly busy. Secular and religious activities are always around for us to get involved, but we must not forget to give God the Number One place in all we do.

  • The few and mindful people Luke 2:1-7

The shepherds were so busy and yet they gave homage to the newly born babe because they were mindful of the coming of the Savior. The Bible says in Luke 2:15, And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. (KJV)

Spiritual insights to live by:

The unpreparedness of the people during the birth of our Savior is a great lesson for the whole world to learn from. May this sad thing not happen again when the Lord Jesus Christ comes.

In I Thessalonians 4:16-17, it is written, For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (KJV)

Today, the Lord Jesus is knocking at the door of our hearts: for the lost, that they may receive Him by faith and have eternal life; and for the believers, that they may have sweet fellowship with our Lord and Savior Jesus in a very personal way.

The Bible says in Revelation 3:20, Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (KJV) Have a great fellowship with the Lord today by giving Him a warm welcome from your sincere heart.
