Using Our Time Wisely Text: Ephesians 5:16 IBCWPM December 9, 2020 Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar Handling our time in a godly way surely reveals our spiritual wisdom, maturity and stewardship. We really need to spend our time appropriately especially during critical times. In Psalm 90:12, Moses prayed, So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. (KJV) Moses prayed for wisdom-filled life because he was aware of the shortness of life as he mentioned in verse ten. (I) Using Our Time Wisely During Evil Days Ephesians 5:16 “Evil days” denotes a period of time wherein our lives are unavoidably exposed to various dangers like this COVID-19, catastrophic calamities, spiritual deterioration, unstable economy and other strange problems this dying world is encountering today. In Amos 5:13-14, it is written, Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time. 14 Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. (KJV) These verses are wisdom-filled for us to consider during evil time. Prudent men will not back up evil people who speak loudly of their evil doings, but rather silently do things that are God-glorifying. We must grab every opportunity to do things that are beneficial to mankind and for God’s honor and glory. On the other hand, it is a wise act to avoid foolishness, selfishness and all appearances of evil. The Bible says in Ephesians 5:16, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. (KJV) It should be our intense desire to live a well-spent life and be a blessing to the next generation -With a cautious walk Ephesians 5:15 Careful steps will surely lead a prudent man to a rewarding future. He who let the Lord guide him in the path of life will never be trapped by the craftiness of the devil. The psalmist said in Psalm 119:133, Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. (KJV) What a prayer of a godly man who really desires God’s leading.
Understanding the will of God for our lives will escort us to a responsible and purpose-driven life. It will keep us from unprofitable wanderings and obscurities. Seeking the will of God is wisdom. In Ephesians 5:17, it is written, Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. (KJV)
Allowing the Holy Ghost to control and empower our lives is an excellent decision for us so we may not be led by fleshly desires. Consequently, the power of the Holy Ghost will be displayed through our lives. In Galatians 5:16, it is written, This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. (KJV)
I Thessalonians 5:18 Being thankful to God is fulfilling His blessed will concerning us. It’s a joyful acknowledgement of God’s undeserved favor. The Bible says in Ephesians 5:19-20, Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; (KJV)
In Ephesians 5:21, it is written, Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. (KJV) Fear of God produces humility and godly obedience. It’s an undeniable manifestation of sound wisdom especially during evil days. Spiritual insights to live by: As we pray to God and wait patiently for solution to our present and seemingly unending global misery, it is needful to understand His will for our lives so we may not overlook the message He wants us to realize in this troublous time. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:17 (KJV) |
